Folk and Classical Interwoven

From Brahms’ beloved Hungarian Dances to Bartók’s Rhapsodies, classical composers have always had a fascination with folk music. The works in this program all reflect this fascination in their own way. Others are original compositions that recall certain folk music techniques, like Inuit throat singing in Marcus Goddard’s Allaqi

Phantoms

The flute, harp & double-bass join our String Quartet in a program of quintets filled with unique colours and textures. The images each piece prokes is one of mystery, illusions and phantoms. The program culminates with a staple of the chamber music repertoire, Antonin Dvořák’s String Quintet no.2 in G major, op.77 (B.48). Dvořák’s work were heavily influenced by folk music.
